IMAC SETUP FOR ASDE INTERNET

1. We want to use the Apple Intenet Access Setup program to configure the dilaup software on your IMac. From the Apple Menu, select Internet Access->Internet Setup. alternate text
2. You will see this welcome screen. Click "Yes" to create a new connection and go to the next screen. alternate text
3. The computer will ask you if you have an Internet account. Click "Yes" to go to the next screen. alternate text
4. This screen lists the information you will need to connect. Click on the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
5. Enter "ASDE Internet" as the name of your connection (as shown in the image to the right), and then click the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
6. Check the answers on this screen. You probably have the standard Imac modem. Click on the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
7. Enter our telephone number (562-3595) for connecting to the internet. Also, enter the username and password you chose when you signed up with ASDE. (Remember to use all lower case letters.) Click on the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
8. This screen asks if you need a dialup script. Click "No". Click on the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
9. This screen asks if you have a dedicated IP address. Click "No". Click on the little blue arrow to go to the next screen. alternate text
10. Enter the domain name servers

11. In this screen you set up your email. Enter your email address and password as shown, then go to the next screen. alternate text
12. This is where we configure the email servers. Enter username@mail.asde.net (where "username" is the username you chose) and mail.asde.net in the blank for SMTP server, then go to the next screen. (NOTE: Your actual email address is your username followed by "@asde.net", however on this screen we add the "mail." to identify the mail server.) alternate text
13. Leave the "NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) host" box blank, and then go to the next screen. alternate text
14. We do not use a proxy server. Click "No" and then go to the next screen. alternate text
15. You are now done setting up your Imac. Click "show details" so you can review to make sure that everything looks correct. alternate text
16. Compare your setup to the one here. If yours is dramatically different, go back and fix it. Otherwise, select "go ahead" and log in. You should hear the modem as it dials. If it fails to dial correctly, first make sure you have the volume on (this is in the Control Panels) so you can hear the modem when it dials. Double check the phone number. (If you are dialing long distance, make sure there is a "1" in front of it and the area code code "660".) Double check your username and password. They both need to be lower case. alternate text
17. If you need to come back later and change your settings you can select Control Panels -> Internet alternate text
18. These are your Internet settings. You can select the tabs and change the settings if you ever need to. alternate text
19. You can connect to the Internet by starting one of the Internet programs such as Internet Explorer or Mail, or you can select control panels->remote access. alternate text
20. The "Remote Access" window allows you to connect, disconnect, or change the username, password and telephone number for your dialup connection. If you don't see these choices, click on the little triangle in the upper left hand corner. alternate text

What Next?

Once you are set up to connect to the Internet you can use any of the Internet programs that come with your computer. From the Apple menu select "Internet Access" and then select "Browse the Internet" to get started on the World Wide Web. Select "Mail" to send and receive email. If you want to do a test send yourself an email message. You will get an answer back in a couple of minutes. You can also open specific location on the World Wide Web by selecting "Connect to" and then entering an Internet Address (also known as a "URL".) ASDE's URL is "www.asde.net" (without the "").
