CSI Services

Community Services Block Grant-(CSBG) meets the needs of specific target groups through several programs aimed at making individuals self-sufficient.  The goal of CSBG is to finds ways to address the 6 conditions of poverty; unemployment, inadequate education and illiteracy, inadequate housing, inadequate available income, and unmet emergencies and malnutrition. 

 

Individual Development Accounts-(IDAs) allow low income individuals and/or families to enroll in a matched savings program where participants can save toward a particular asset goal.  Eligible asset goals include saving for their own home, post secondary education, or startup/expansion of a small business.  If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Community Services, Inc.  Or if you or your organization are interested in sponsoring an IDA participant, please contact us.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance-(VITA) program consists of free tax preparation to low-income individuals.  We provide assistance in filing for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child-tax credits, and other applicable forms.  We also assist in applying for Missouri Property Tax Credit for elderly and handicapped.  If you would be interested in volunteering your time to help prepare taxes for the low-income, please contact us at Community Services, Inc.

 

Energy Crisis Intervention Program-(ECIP) helps clients with their energy bills.  During the summer months, we have Summer Cooling which helps with electricity only.  During the winter months, we have Winter Heating which helps with your primary heat source (gas, propane, electricity, wood, etc.)

Energy Assistance – The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program has now been given to Community Services, Inc.  During the months of October through March, a one-time heating assistance will be offered to all CSBG eligible clients and others who apply.  There are income guidelines depending on household.  To apply, an application must be filled out at Community Services, Inc. and a copy of the prior month’s income and main heating source must be provided.  Contact Community Services, Inc. today to see if you would be eligible.  Contact Rachael Kreps at 660-582-3113.

Air Conditioner/Fan Loan-we also have window air conditioner units and fans available for the elderly, disabled, and households with children under five.  A note from your doctor may be required to receive this loan. 

 

Food Pantry(TFAP)-we offer USDA commodity food.  A food pantry is located in four of our five counties.  Food is available any time a family is experiencing a crisis.  However, a household may only receive commodities one time in a calendar month. For Nodaway County, commodity food may be picked up at the Ministry Center. 

Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA)-an emergency food and shelter program.  FEMA can be used to make a payment for your primary energy source.  FEMA can also provide an initial deposit on a rental property and/or a month's rent. 

United Way-The United Way of Nodaway County provides financial assistance to 20 non-profit organizations that serve county residents.  These services can be grouped into the following categories:  community and family services, youth services, and senior citizens services.  Some of United Way's services include American Red Cross Midland Empire Chapter, America's Second Harvest, Birthright of Maryville, Ministry Center, Northwest Missouri Literacy Council, Salvation Army, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Nodaway County 4-H Council, School Health Services, Nodaway County Senior Center and many more.

Salvation Army-The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.  Its message is based on the Bible.  Its ministry is motivated by the love of God.  Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.  Salvation Army provides Community Services, Inc. with gas vouchers, food vouchers, funds to help pay water bills, emergency food for transients, etc.

Missouri Housing Trust Fund(MHTF)-provides rental assistance, assistance with mortgages, utility bills, and can provide rental or utility deposits.  To qualify, you must be 25% below poverty level.  To see if you qualify for assistance, please contact Community Services, Inc.

Back to School Fairs-help low income families get their children the supplies they need in order to start the new school year.  We collect donations from area businesses to buy children school supplies, then hold the event in August.  We also have a variety of booths set up that the children and parents can visit and receive educational information.  This is held for school age children grades K-8.  You must register with CSI and be income eligible to take part in this program.

Christmas in Summer-Area churches buy each eligible school age child one complete outfit.  Registration runs from June 1-30.  You can pick your child's new outfit up at the Nodaway County Back to School Fair.  Note:  The project is limited to 125 children and there is no guarantee that this service can be provided to all eligible applicants.  If you or your organization would like to make a donation to our Christmas in Summer program, please contact Community Services, Inc.

Holiday Programs-sign up begins on October 1st and some of the programs include the Angel Tree, Adopt-a-Family, food donations, gift certificates, monetary donations, etc.  Donations for our Holiday Programs are greatly appreciated.  Please contact Community Services, Inc. for more information.

 

Life Skills Workshops-these workshops are offered to individuals who have trouble managing their money, have made repeated emergency assistance requests, etc.  Some of the life skills workshops we currently offer are; employment skills, budget counseling, energy conservation, and parenting.  Workshops are consistently adapted to the needs expressed by clients, environment, and current economy.  If you or your organization would be interested in teaching a Life Skill's Workshop, please contact Community Services, Inc.

 

Job Fair-come find a job, internship, or information about some of Maryville's many local companies.  Some companies present include:  Energizer, Kawasaki, Laclede Chain, Beverly Healthcare, Wal-Mart, Kelly Services, Northwest Services, Woodruff-Arnold, Northwest Technical School, etc.  This year's Job Fair was held at the new Community Center during May.  Make sure to keep updated on when our next Job Fair will be.  Please contact Community Services, Inc. for further information on when the next Job Fair date and location will be.

 

Habitat for Humanity of Nodaway County-is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to build houses with families in need.  If you are interested in becoming a Habitat family, volunteering, donating, or sponsoring a Habitat home, please contact Community Services, Inc.

Poverty Awareness Projects - consists of facilitating the Poverty Simulations throughout the five county area.

 

Family Support/Case Management-an integrated process that centers around continuous services and rational decision-making in designing and executing a family's plan of action.  If you have an education or employment goal and would like family counseling and help in setting and meeting these goals, please contact us at Community Services, Inc.

Meal with Class Project

 

Making the Grade-is a curriculum targeted at sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who are struggling in school.  Because education levels play such an important role in achieving success, we stress the importance of graduating from high school and going on to some sort of post-secondary education; whether it be a university, junior college, or technical school training.  If you are interested in the Making the Grade program, please contact Community Services, Inc. for more information on how to sign up.
